Modern Raised Gilding – Illuminated Letter Demonstration
Modern Raised Gilding – Demonstration
Raised Gilding is a technique that creates a three-dimensional effect and a strong shine by raising the base and then applying gold leaf, as opposed to regular gold leaf application (flat gilding).
Gold has been a symbol of brilliance, luxury, and sanctity in the arts since ancient times. In calligraphy and illuminated manuscripts dating back to the Middle Ages, raised gilding has made letters and decorations shine brightly.
In this workshop, we will teach you how to create a William Morris Acanthus motif using a modern raised gilding technique with Kolner's Instacoll, which achieves a mirror-like gold finish without the need for traditional plaster or lengthy polishing.
We will demonstrate the process step by step, from preparing the base to applying Instacol, achieving a high gloss finish, and applying real gold leaf.
This lesson is available for viewing in the archives.
We will send you a simple kit so that you can review the material at your own pace later.
