Modern Raised Gilding – Illuminated Letter
Modern Raised Gilding – Decorative Initials

Raised Gilding is a technique that creates a three-dimensional effect and a strong shine by raising the base and then applying gold leaf, as opposed to regular gold leaf application (flat gilding).

Gold has been a symbol of brilliance, luxury, and sanctity in the arts since ancient times. In calligraphy and illuminated manuscripts dating back to the Middle Ages, raised gilding has made letters and decorations shine brightly.

In this workshop, you will learn how to create a William Morris Acanthus motif using a modern raised gilding technique with Kolner's Instacoll, which achieves a mirror-like gold finish without the need for traditional plaster or lengthy polishing.
This lesson involves following the steps to actually create a piece of art, from preparing the base to applying Instacol, a high-gloss finish, and applying real gold leaf.
