This course allows you to thoroughly master the basics of modern calligraphy over six months through monthly online lessons and reviews with Risa Kadono, a certified calligrapher of the Japan Modern Calligraphy Association. You will review each lesson's content, and we will return your submitted assignments with advice.
This is a certified course by the Japan Modern Calligraphy Association. In the lessons, you will learn based on Maki Shimano's "Shirobana" script.
Upon completion of this Basic course and submission of all assignments, you will be eligible to advance to the Advanced course, scheduled to start in January 2027.
Those who complete the Advanced course will be certified as a "Junior Scritier" by the Japan Modern Calligraphy Association.

【Curriculum】
1st Session: What is Modern Calligraphy? (Practice methods, strokes, etc.)
2nd Session: Lowercase letters, numbers
3rd Session: Uppercase letters, symbols
4th Session: Practicing connecting letters, pangrams
5th Session: Phrase practice
6th Session: Phrase layout, artwork creation

Basic Course (Preparation, basic strokes, uppercase and lowercase alphabets)
【What to prepare】
Straight or oblique holder, nib, Higgins Black Ink, Zoom-compatible device
*If you do not have the tools, we recommend the Modern Calligraphy Starter Kit.
*For Zoom-compatible devices, we recommend two devices: a PC or tablet to view the instructor's hand, and a smartphone or similar device to show your own hand.

【Risa KADONO Calligraphy Profile】
From childhood to university, she attended calligraphy classes and became familiar with handwriting. She encountered calligraphy through her own wedding.
While working as a calligraphy instructor, she creates artworks and has a track record of winning art contests and holding solo exhibitions.
She is widely active in PR on-site writing and place card writing for major domestic and international companies and luxury brands.
