July-December 2026 Tokyo In-Person Class: Misaki Ando Modern Calligraphy Basic Six-Month Course (JCA Certified Course)

This course allows you to thoroughly master the basics of modern calligraphy over six months through monthly in-person lessons and corrections with Misaki Ando, a certified calligrapher from the Japan Modern Calligraphy Association. You will review the content of each lesson, and your submitted correction assignments will be returned to you with advice.

This is a certified course by the Japan Modern Calligraphy Association. In the lessons, you will learn based on the "white flower" script by Maki Shimono.
Those who complete this Basic course and submit their correction assignments can advance to the Advanced course, scheduled to open in January 2027.
Those who complete the Advanced course will be certified as "Junior Scritier" by the Japan Modern Calligraphy Association.

1st Session: What is Modern Calligraphy (Practice methods, strokes, etc.)
2nd Session: Lowercase letters, numbers
3rd Session: Uppercase letters, symbols
4th Session: Practice connecting letters, pangram
5th Session: Phrase practice
6th Session: Phrase layout, artwork creation

[MISAKI CALLIGRAPHY DESIGN Misaki Ando Profile]
In 2020, during her third maternity leave, she discovered calligraphy with the desire to utilize her 13 years of shodo (Japanese calligraphy) skills.
In December 2021, she completed Maki Shimono's regular modern calligraphy course in Tokyo.
In May 2022, she passed the scritier examination of the Japan Modern Calligraphy Association and became a certified scritier member.
Since 2021, she has been operating a classroom based in Saitama.
Utilizing her experience in the bridal industry and creative work, she supports the PR activities of sole proprietors and corporations with calligraphic designs that combine graphic design and calligraphy. She features a unique "own style" full of energy, ranging from classical scripts.
