[DAIKANYAMA drawing] Shoko Harada - DARUMA WORKSHOP 10/16・10/23

This is a workshop by calligrapher/script designer Shoko Harada, where you will create your own original work using a traditional Japanese "daruma" doll.

In this workshop, you will learn Shoko Harada's original calligraphic style, "Wamodern Calligraphy," which fuses Japanese and Western aesthetics based on the beauty of Japanese calligraphy.
You will choose words or phrases that hold special meaning to you, and Shoko Harada will carefully assist you with the design process step by step.

After learning how to use traditional Japanese brushes and practicing writing, you will then actually write your chosen words onto your own daruma doll to complete your artwork.
The completed daruma will be finished by painting in the left eye, symbolizing the placement of a wish or resolve.

*On the day of the workshop, you will choose the design you wish to complete, and we will instruct you on how to use the corresponding writing tools.
*This workshop will be held in English with Japanese interpretation.

Shoko Harada Profile

Calligrapher / Script Designer
Born in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Grew up in Yokohama and California, USA. Graduated from Kanazawa College of Art, Department of Design. After working as an art director/graphic designer for a major department store, she became independent. Her activities primarily involve providing designs to companies, supervising products, and teaching. With the concept of "a new way to enjoy the Japanese language," she conveys Japanese culture through a calligraphy style that fuses Japanese and Western elements, drawing on her experience of living overseas.
