The first collection of works by Shoko Harada, a calligraphy artist and script designer active both in Japan and internationally.

This book covers the past works and client projects of the artist, who continues to create in her unique "Japanese modern calligraphy" style, characterized by elegant lines and primarily featuring Japanese characters and illustrations using modern calligraphy techniques. The shimmering ink right after it's applied and the delicate brushwork are meticulously embedded throughout this beautiful, notebook-sized book with a pleasing tactile feel. Artworks and stationery produced in collaboration with artisans are captured in beautiful photographs, and the "joy of writing" unfolds with every turn of the page.

The book includes an interview with the artist and contributions from related parties at the end.

Book design and layout were handled by graphic designer Azusa Kurihara.
With its beautiful appearance like a diary, featuring Swiss binding and a hardcover, it opens 180 degrees without needing to be held down.
The fully letterpress-printed cover uses a slightly lighter sumi (ink) color, and by printing on paper with natural unevenness, each copy has a subtly different texture.

Purchases made at Paper Tree include an original "Tanyo-sensei sticker" (ink and pen)! (One sticker per book. Distribution ends when supplies run out.)

The exhibition will feature works from the art collection and include book sales.
A physical display of the boxed special edition will also be available.
On the 4th, a three-way discussion with the designer and publisher is scheduled.

A publication commemoration exhibition will be held simultaneously at the specialty calligraphy store. Anyone is welcome to participate freely. You can purchase the artist's works and art collection while browsing the store's products.

Shoko Harada Profile

Born in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Grew up in Yokohama and California, USA. Graduated from Kanazawa College of Art, Department of Visual Design. Her activities primarily include providing designs to companies, teaching, and creating art. With the concept of "a new way to enjoy Japanese language," she actively works to pass on Japanese culture and connect Western and Eastern writing cultures to future generations through her unique calligraphy style that fuses Japanese and Western elements, leveraging her experiences living abroad. She is the creative director of "Momongado," a stationery brand developed in collaboration with artisans. Her books include "Hajimete no Wa Modern Calligraphy: Nihongo o Tanoshimu" (First Japanese Modern Calligraphy: Enjoying Japanese) (Graphic-sha).
