This is the first art book by Shoko Harada, a calligrapher and script designer active both in Japan and internationally.

This book covers the past works and client projects of the artist, who continues to create in her unique "Wa-Modern Calligraphy" style, which features elegant lines characteristic of modern calligraphy, primarily writing Japanese characters but also including illustrations.
The moments when ink shines right after writing and the delicate brushstrokes are scattered throughout this beautiful book, which is the size of a tactile notebook.
Artworks and stationery items produced in collaboration with artisans are captured in beautiful photographs, and the "joy of writing" unfolds with each turn of the page.

The end of the book includes an interview with the artist and contributions from related parties.

The book design and text layout were handled by graphic designer Azusa Kurihara.
With its beautiful appearance resembling a diary with a Swiss-bound hardcover, it opens 180 degrees without needing to be held down.
The cover, entirely letterpress printed, uses a slightly pale sumi-ink color, and by printing on paper with natural unevenness, each book has a subtly different texture.

Shoko Harada Profile

Born in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Grew up in Yokohama and California, USA. Graduated from Kanazawa College of Art, Department of Visual Design. Primarily active in providing designs for companies, teaching, and art production. With the concept of "new ways to enjoy the Japanese language," she utilizes her experience living abroad to connect Eastern and Western writing cultures for future generations, preserving Japanese culture through a calligraphic style that blends Japanese and Western elements. Creative Director of "Momongado," a stationery brand produced in collaboration with artisans. Author of "Hajimete no Wa-Modern Calligraphy: Enjoying Japanese" (Graphic-sha).
