Our Story

Hello, this is Okamoto from Paper Tree.

In the blog (Journal) that we are about to start, we would like to deliver information about paper trees, stories about the people who make them, and small tips that will be useful in your daily life in writing, just as if we were talking in a store.

In this first episode, we will introduce the origins of Paper Tree and our vision.

Paper Tree started in 2012 as a "social stationery and greeting card shop" in Kudanshita, Tokyo, where the family business was still in operation.

Over time, I naturally became involved in the world of calligraphy, and now I continue to share its charm while still cherishing the beauty of paper, pen, and the act of writing.

Our thoughts

Cards and stationery that made your heart flutter as a child, notebooks filled with dreams, and carefully stored letter paper and stickers - memories and cultures gently overlap and gently connect people.

As I travel, guided by my passion, I have come into contact with the world of paper and handwriting, as well as the richness of its long history. I feel that the stories I encounter there naturally spread throughout the store and in my interactions with customers.

What we value

At the heart of Paper Tree are people. The moments when customers pick up paper, try ink, and connect with each other while chatting are moments that we treasure.

The name "Paper Tree" embodies our hope that through paper and handwriting, branches will slowly spread, people will form warm connections, and memories and stories will be piled up, just like a tree that grows rings.

Hello, I'm Sakura Okamoto from Paper Tree.

Paper Tree began in 2012 in Kudanshita, Tokyo, where our family business had long been based, as a Social Stationery & Greeting Card shop.

Over time, our path naturally led us deeper into the art of calligraphy—now an important part of what we do—while staying true to our original love for beautiful paper and the joy of writing.

Our Story

Perhaps you remember the card or notebook that made you smile as a child, or the letter paper and stickers you've kept for years—small keepsakes carrying memories and meaning, and a way of gently connecting people.

Our journey has taken us into the world of paper, handwriting, and its rich history. The stories we've discovered along the way now live in our shop and in the conversations we share with you.

Our Philosophy

At the heart of Paper Tree are, above all “people”.

We treasure the moments when someone picks up a sheet of paper, tries a new ink, and a conversation begins. These simple, genuine exchanges are what make our shop feel alive.

The name “Paper Tree” reflects our wish for connections to grow slowly and warmly—like the branches of a tree—so that each item you take home will hold its own story and memories.

With this Journal, we hope to share that same spirit online. If there's something you'd like to know or something you'd like us to do, we'd love to hear from you.
